Sydney Ngyuen
Piano, Bassoon, and Clarinet Teacher

Sydney Nguyen is a student at Irvine Valley College (IVC), majoring in Piano Performance and Neuroscience, and is currently studying under Svetlana Smolina. She has been playing piano since the age of five and has since then continued to expand her musical career and love for music.
Sydney was exposed to music while growing up in Chula Vista, where she started piano lessons. She went on to complete the Certificate of Merit program under the tutelage of Jessie Chang, and during her journey to complete Certificate of Merit, Sydney also competed in various competitions such as the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Sonata Festival, Summer Youth Music Festival (SYMF), Bach Festival, and Chopin Festival. She also hosted her own senior recital, showcasing her skills as a pianist, bassoonist, and clarinetist.
In addition to the piano, Sydney also plays clarinet and bassoon in her school orchestras and bands. In 2021, she performed in Segerstrom Center for the Arts with the IUSD Honors Band. She is currently the bassoonist in the IVC symphony orchestra and wind symphony.
Sydney enjoys sharing her love of music not only through performing, but also through teaching. She is encouraging, warm, and enthusiastic in her approach with students and she thrives in helping each student enjoy learning music and reaching their goals.
